I’m going to try and post something every other day to keep the blog updated. I dont know if anyone actually reads these posts or not , but i’ll see what happens.

How to track traffic on your blog?

It’s important to see whos visiting your site. You might not think that but it is IMPORTANT. First off , you can find out how many hits (visitors) you get a day to your site. Then you can find out where they come from. If they live in India , or they found your site searching google. Even if you wanted to know what browser they where using. All this information can be found out.

Tracking software

Depending on which host your using there may already be software installed. If your using cpanel , awstats should be installed. You can find in under the list of programs at your cpanel. Some hosts may not have it with cpanel , there are a few other stats programs. Just take a look around and you should find something.

Even if you do have these programs , i do recommend you use google analystics. Google has a traffic statics program for webmasters , that give more detailed information. Plus there are more features than awstats for example. The only downside is you have to include a html code in your pages for it to track your traffic. If your using wordpress this can easily be done with a simple plugin. There are plugins for google analystics , just search them in your dashboard.

I have used google analytics for other websites , i found it does display acturate information. Just today i installed in our guruweb , and will be tracking you!

Next post i will show some more about the program.

I always use GA, have been using it for 13 months and it is invaluable for finding who is visiting your blog, and where they are arriving from. It also shows what content is most popular.

yeah Google Analytics is a great way to find out how people get yto your website so you can optimize your web pages the right way. It’s a great way to plan how to increase your rankings and increase more traffic from Google.

it’s also another good way to know if your getting real people to your site :)

I have to agree with you. While every hosting firm provides a stats package with it, Google Analytics is by far the best one. If you are running a WordPress blog there are even add-ins you can get for many different stats packages, but I can not recommend them, as most of them slow the site down and cause hang-ups. Stick with the Guru on this one and use Google, you will be happy.

GA is a great tool to track your website statistics and it’s great that it integrates with feedburner and other services. I am however keeping an eye on piwik, which is an open source alternative to GA and offers more possibilities for import/export, and customization.
